Sëlê-vithe Fêqê (/ˈvɘvè/ /ˈviʃe/ [fuzzy] [handcuff]) is a subtropical Town located in the Fîthdekî Zone of the Union of Engineers.

The name Sëlê-vithe Fêqê is derived from the Iron Elvish language, as Sëlê-vithe Fêqê was founded by Khrardjea Garënm, who was culturaly Iron Elven.

Climate

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê has a yearly average temperature of 21°C (69°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 33°C (91°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 10°C (50°F). Sëlê-vithe Fêqê receives an average of 215 cm/y (84 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Sëlê-vithe Fêqê covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 1412 m (4632 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê was founded in time immemorial, reportedly some time durring the late 8th century, by Khrardjea Garënm. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê was built using the conventions of Iron Elven durring the late 8th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Sëlê-vithe Fêqê is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber and earth construction, with most buildigns first floors resembling mounds of earth, with subsequent floors appearing as elaborate log cabins, with each building forming a tiered pyramid of sorts fromed from the stack of rectangular, peek roofed cabins. Most wooden bracing, support, and trim is carved with decorative knotwork, and the larger structures even feature painted trim which emphasises the knotwork.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê is buildings are arranged within a network of premissive packed earth streets which form a rectangular grid, where each block verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller block has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town resides behind a palisade wall complete with battlments, a moat, and timber gatehouses with drawbridges. The town's robustly designed timber walls have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê has the unmistakable air of a town on its last legs. Everything is a bit slipshod and ramshackle. Everyone is at work, or drinking. No one has anything in their eyes other than fear and despair. Whatever industry once fueled Sëlê-vithe Fêqê ’s existence has dried up and the town is drifting down the stream of history as it dries up. Even with that as it is, everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or much of both. The town should be gone, not dying. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring just long enough for it to be uncomfortable.

Civic Infrastructure

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known primarily for its use of abstraction and simplicity. Clean lines, right angles, and primary colors characterized this aesthetic and art movement expressed via architecture and paintings. Its design ethos allows only primary colors and non-colors, only squares and rectangles, only straight and horizontal or vertical lines. Vertical and horizontal lines are positioned in layers or planes that do not intersect, thereby allowing each element to exist independently and unobstructed by other elements. These seemingly impossible principals for an architectural style coalesces into structures which most experts find hard to put into words. It is not that their geometry is impossible, but rather the style's attempt at producing works only describable visually was most successful..

Due to the actions of local Kami, autumn is short in Sëlê-vithe Fêqê.

The Ice Elemental, Medium near Sëlê-vithe Fêqê are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves ritual combat to channel Transmutation energies of tier 3 via moments of science.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Sëlê-vithe Fêqê was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Sëlê-vithe Fêqê lost 204 people, 391 livestock, and 87 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 195, when members of Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's militia enacted an operation to transport a specific powerful weapon to a particular depot unharmed. The operation was complicated by the officer in charge of Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's forces was incompetent, and issue many foolish and-or unprofessional orders. The conflict ended with an assault and siege on the strategic location, which ended in a crushing defeat for Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Sëlê-vithe Fêqê's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
